Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center   Two American milestones, one historic place. It's 1607 and 1781, and you are there." Historical summaries, descriptive events calendar, exhibitions,etc.  If you are a local resident admission is free to both parks/museums.

  • Bush Neck Farm - Pick-your-own strawberries, apples, blueberries, asparagus, sweet corn, peaches, pumpkins.   1502 Bush Neck Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188.    Phone: (757) 258-0114. Directions: About 7 miles west of Williamsburg. At Lightfoot, next to the Outlet Mall, turn down Centerville Road, which is Route 614. Go 4.3 miles to Route 633, Jolly Pond Road. This road becomes Bush Neck Road, which dead-ends at the farm.  Open: Mid April - mid November; 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Saturday. Also, School tours May 1-November 10. Picnic area.


     Williamsburg Farmers' Market    The Williamsburg Farmers' Market in Merchants Square. Winter markets Februrary 11, March 11 and April 8 from 8:30 a.m. - Noon. Regular season from May 6 through October 21, with 30 producer-only growers every Saturday, rain or shine, 8 a.m to 12 Noon. Holiday markets November 18, 25 and December 9 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.. The Market is located at 415 Duke of Gloucester Street in the heart of Merchants Square. The Market is convenient to over 400 parking spaces in and around the Colonial Williamsburg and College of William and Mary. Market features weekly "Chef at the Market" cooking demonstrations and music as well as exhibitors including the local Master Gardners, Williamsburg Land Conservancy, and activities for kids.

  • Williamsburg Pottery Factory    The saga of the Williamsburg Pottery is rooted in the American enterprise system. In 1938, James E. Maloney founded the business, making eighteenth-century saltglaze reproductions to sell at low prices. As time passed, Maloney added china and glassware, discounting prices so that shoppers would return. Bargain hunters soon flocked to the place and an amazing expansion was underway.

    Now, the Pottery has mushroomed into 200 acres with 32 buildings an inventory of 70,000 items gathered from all over the world.  When I was growing up everyone would go to "The Pottery" to do their shopping.

    Is  an organization of people from a variety of backgrounds.  They share a common interest in continuing learning experiences and intellectual stimulation. There are no tests or grades. Members participate purely for the joy of learning.

    Though sponsored by The College of William and Mary, it is self-supporting. Cur courses and activities are planned and operated by the members. They design their own curriculum and arrange for volunteer instructors from The College of William and Mary faculty (current and retired), from  membership, and from the community at large.

    Membership in the Christopher Wren Association (CWA) also provides an opportunity for a variety of social interactions.   • Virginia Living Museum   At the Virginia Living Museum living exhibits showcase Virginia's natural history from the mountains to the sea. Explore the underwater realm of the Chesapeake Bay and the underground world of a limestone cave. See the fish, reptiles, amphibians and birds that would live in a mountain cove or cypress swamp. Enjoy hands-on activities and stroll the 3/4-mile elevated boardwalk to see animals in natural habitats. Enjoy magnificent views of the sun from the observatory and travel the universe in a planetarium show. Buy a season pass and you can go anytime you want. They are a great value. Our two boys would like to live here if we would let them. They never grow tired of it.

    Buy season passes they will pay for themselves after 2nd visit. Free parking and 10% discout on food & gifts are additional benefits of passes.  You can get a combo pass that's good at Water Country too.  Go in the late afternoon and during the week when the park is less full. Howl-O -Scream is a blast for adults and kids. Go the first weekend or two. It is very crowded close to Halloween. Can be a little scary for kids under 8.

  • Virginia Marine Science Museum  Va Beach The museum itself is a popular vacation destination, where children delight seeing sharks, whales, harbor seals and sea turtles up close. They also can touch all sorts of creatures in the Touch Tanks!

    Children's Museum of Portsmouth  Va The Children's Museum of Portsmouth is the largest children's museum in the state. It has more than 80 interactive exhibits and a planetarium.

     Chippokes Plantation State Park in Surry, one of the oldest working farms in the nation. This state park has it all — camping, cabins, fishing, boating, Olympic size swimming pool — as well as a living historical exhibiit. Right across the river from Jamestown. You can take the free Jamestown ferry to get there.

    First Landing State Park/ Seashore State Park   www.dcr.virginia.gov/parks/1stland.htm   The park offers a chance to explore a unique habitat featuring lagoons, large cypress trees and rare plants. More than 19 miles of hiking trails wind through the natural area, and guided kayak ecological tours allow exploration of the marshes and bays. Climate-controlled cabins, campsites, picnic areas, boat ramps, kayak rentals, and a bicycle trail are also available. Its Chesapeake Bay Center has aquariums and a wet lab operated by the Virginia Marine Science Museum, educational displays, historic exhibits, a camp store, and an amphitheater .

     U.S. Army Transportation Museum in Newport News at Ft. Eustis. This museum is devoted entirely to more than 200 years of Army transportation history including miniatures, dioramas, experimental models, and video presentations.

  • Chickohominy Riverfront Park  Williamsburg This 140 acre park is located on the Chickahominy. It features camping, boat ramp, driving range, pool, fishing pier, boat rentals, located next to the proposed  Virginia Capital Trail is a fifty-mile interpretive trail that connects Virginia’s past and present capitals of Richmond, Jamestown and Williamsburg.

More than 70 Assorted acts that include singers, dancers, instrumentalists, magicians, storytellers, puppeteers, jugglers, clowns, ballet, bands, and many more, all indoors on 41 stages in 24 of historic Williamsburg’s most beautiful buildings scattered throughout the Colonial area of Williamsburg. Performances run mainly through 11:45 p.m. There’s something for everyone!  Stay for the countdown and midnight fireworks extravaganza best viewed from William & Mary's  Zable Stadium.
